What is judecca

All of the Chains that Dante encountered are found each time that he descended into a lower circle. The Chains of Judecca are enormous lines of chains with a central, elaborate structure, possibly a lock.

Being breakable, this structure will develop a bright sheen as Dante comes near it. These chains are embedded in the walls of almost every Circle of Hell, and all led down into the Circle of Treachery. Every time Dante found one of these, he used the Scythe to destroy it to continue his progress. However, each time that a chain was broken, Lucifer's laugh was heard, indicating that he is aware of being slowly being freed.

In the descent into Violence , instead of breaking the chain himself Dante made use of a nearby Minotaur statue's axe to break it for him, due to that chain being out of reach.

Finally, Virgil climbs through a hole in the central rock, turning around — Dante is afraid that Virgil is going back through Hell, but both of the poets find themselves on their feet and standing on the other side of the world, having passed the mid-point of the Earth.

They can see Satan's legs on this side, his body still frozen in the ice above. Without pausing to rest, the poets make the long journey to the other side of the world where they are delivered though a round opening into the world under the stars.

This final canto is the climax of the Inferno , the meeting with Satan. The sinners in this final round, Judecca named after Judas Iscariot , keeping with the theme of retribution, are permanently frozen in the ice; they were treacherous to their masters, the ultimate sin of malice, and are forever encased in their sin of coldness. Dante's two-fold theme of religion and politics is found in the very mouths of Satan.

Gazing upward, Dante sees that Lucifer has three horrible faces, one looking straight ahead and the others looking back over his shoulders. Beneath each head rises a set of wings, which wave back and forth, creating the icy winds that keep Cocytus frozen.

Just another day in Massachusetts! On a more serious note, we are in the season of Lent, a time of repentance, reflection, and self-examination. Although it has no relation to Lent, for me, the fact that Daylight Savings Time begins on March 8 and we will have an extra hour of daylight will be especially welcome after this winter. In every case, God is powerfully at work. Interestingly, the 40 days of Lent do not include the Sundays in Lent. He is Risen Indeed.
